Mandarin Combustible

Located in the heart of Moscow, Mandarin Combustible is a trendy cocktail bar based in a building which used to be a clothing factory a hundred years ago. Leather couches, dimmed light, bright accents - the sophisticated and well-thought loft style interior sends the guests back to luxurious Shanghai of the beginning of the XX century – multileveled crystal chandeliers and the monumental bar counter, Chinese lanterns and palm trees in pots. The contrast of austere dark furniture and yellow lampshades may remind of the exotic citrus fruit (a tangerine is ‘mandarin’ in Russian), however, this was not the inspiration for the owners and designers. ‘Mandarin’ is the most common Chinese dialect, and the obvious influence of the Chinese culture is seen in the design and the menu. The descriptive ‘combustible’ may either imply spicy Pan Asian cuisine or suggest the bar is a pretty hot place at nights.
With the Pan Asian cuisine available, it won’t be difficult to quickly refresh oneself with crunchy eggplants with tangerine, fresh rolls with crab and mango, Thai salmon seviche with papaya or tuna tartare with mango. For those coming for dinner, it would be recommended to try mango duck in orange sauce or crunchy eel with egg plant. The guests who are reluctant to taste Pan Asian delicacies, can enjoy delicious steamed fillet of sole with vegetables, beef with black beens, or traditional Peking duck.
Since Mandarin Combustible is positioned as a cocktail bar, there’s an abundance of great cocktails to offer. The team of bartenders creates unbelievable mixtures to fit every taste. The carte surely has classical cocktails in the best European traditions and home-made liqueurs – such as dried apricot-rum which is absolutely must taste. Apart from the regular carte, there are seasonal drinks to surprise. For example, now one can choose from the Film Affection spring list inspired by such well-known movies as “Mulholland Drive”, “Frida” and others. Or Nothing Is True is a smoky whisky based anis-herbal cocktail, inspired by ‘Naked Lunch’ by David Cronenberg. Sour, a bright and tangy cocktail - a mix of dark rum, amaro and blueberry liqueur and black currant - is a reflection of Peter Greenaway’s film. Friducca influenced by ‘Frida’ is made from tequila, brightened with rosemary, peach and passion fruit.
Along with the wide wine list, there’s also a rich choice of teas and pastry. At weekends the great atmosphere is enhanced with regular DJ-sets.
The appealing design of a pre-revolutionary Shanghai bar, vivid colours and inviting prices, most enjoyable food and drinks – all this is available in Mandarin Combustible. Excellent pastime with pronounced Chinese flair!
