Directions to The Solyanka State Gallery
The Solyanka State Gallery is located in the heart of the city. It will take you 5 minutes to get to 'Solyanka' from the Kremlin. The word 'Solyanka' comes from the times of Ivan the Terrible and the Salty yard. The building, where nowadays you can find the Gallery, was constructed by architects Sergeyev, Sherwood and Guerman in the early XX Century. The Solyanka State Gallery emerged in its original form in 1988. Today 'Solyanka' is one of the most interesting State Galleries and the building is considered to be a monument of neoclassicism. In early days the Gallery was famous as a place showcasing a lot of naive art and the most influential Russian primitives of the time.
Today you can find there a vast diversity of works starting from the Russian classical art, rare works from private collections and ending with the works of very young artists. The gallery has several main streams as amateur photography, filmmaking and animation art, the naive art. You can participate in various lectures and excursions frequently organized in the Gallery.
