Museum-Panorama The Battle of Borodino
Moscow
Museum-panorama 'The Battle of Borodino' is one of the well-known and popular military museums in Moscow. The foreground of the museum is the famous panorama 'The Battle of Borodino'.
The idea of creation of such a huge panorama about the great victory of the Russian Army over Napoleon was realized in the beginning of the 20th century by request of Emperor Nicholas II. The panorama was painted by battle-artist Franz Roubaud within preparation for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the victory. The panorama was presented on a temporary exhibition in a wooden pavilion on Chistoprudny Boulevard for the first time.
The panorama-museum was opened again by the 150th anniversary of the Patriotic War in 1962 in the historic place nearby Poklonnaya Gora, where Napoleon was vainly waiting to be met by the city administration bearing the municipal keys, and not far from the Arc of Triumph also built in honor of the victory over Napoleon in 1984.
The other highlight of the museum is the reconstructed 'Kutuzov's hut' - the house, where Field-Marshal Kutuzov was making historical decisions regarding the war.
