Sokolniki Park has a long story. It used to be created to satisfy royal passion for falcon hunting (for the tsar family) in the XV-XVII centuries, then turned into Russian emperors centerpiece of celebrations, later in the XIX century the park became open to the public by city authorities who became its only owner.
In Soviet époque there were constructed pavilions for international industrial exhibitions, one of them was officially opened by Nikita Khrushchev (USSR General Secretary) and Richard Nixon (USA President).
Many beautiful park landscapes were painted by famous Russian artists, such as Levitan, Savrasov, Shishkin.
In the last few years Sokolniki Park underwent a lot of innovative changes. Now visitors can have an attraction ride, play billiard, chess or draughts, table tennis, as well as go cycling, roller blading and swimming in the summer and ice skating, skiing in winter, or even go to the library.
Each season is highlighted by special memorable and bright events, for example, summer jazz festival 'Summer time' and hat fest, spring Baby fest (for future mums), open air beach disco parties, Ice cream Day, international Clown festival and Ice sculpture competition in winter, autumn Horse fair and many other interesting shows and exhibitions.
The park has recently opened an observatory, kids centre of discoveries and different clubs, so you can enjoy various activities and communicate with interesting people.
Sokolniki Park has a coworking zone with free Wi-Fi which is really nice for spending high quality work time there, not to mention big pleasure just to go for a stroll or sit in one of the park well designed cafes with charming interior and friendly atmosphere.
