PRESS-RELEASE
School's classics project presents a play in English 'Chechov's vaudevilles' - 'The Bear' and 'The Marriage Proposal'. Directed by Ekaterina Granitova - we asked 'Why in English'?

Moscow has a town within a town - a couple of thousand foreigners who live and work here permanently, in embassies and companies. The number of tourists visiting Moscow is also growing. They can watch Russian Ballet and listen to Russian opera without a need to understand Russian, but the Russian theatre is inaccessible to them because of this language barrier. We would like to let the expats and tourists discover Chekhov in the city where he lived and worked. We decided to perform the two most famous vaudevilles by Chekhov 'the Bear' and 'the Marriage Proposal'. It turns out that both plays are still very relevant for international audiences. Issues of feminism, loneliness, passion, debt, hobbies, broken communication- are explored and all are universal themes, understood the world over . The cast of talented actors includes graduates of RATI-GITIS - Makar Zaporozhsky (TV series Molodezhka), Yana Guryanova (TV series INTERNY), Ksenya Orlova and Ivan Vasilevsky. The musical accompaniment of the play is enhanced by beautiful performances of Russian romances and arias by opera singer Igor Danilov. The scenographic director of the play is Elena Yarochkina, an artist of the theatre of Opera of Moscow conservatory. Chekhov sounds very different in English. A different language gives a new flavor to this very well known material. The play will appeal not only to foreigners, but everybody who can understand English, including students and school pupils. This is a contemporary play that proves that we are lucky to be born and live in the same country as Chechov.
